Molyoló
Hi, I am Zsuzsa!
I love the sense of community and the atmosphere of creating together, which is why I am pleased to have been invited to lead the Fonó at Molyoló, a place I find dear and inspiring. There we will not only knit but also pursue any kind of handicraft activity: crochet, sewing, macramé, tapestry work, or simply spending time together and creating.
My Name is Zsuzsanna Orthodoxou.
My name is Zsuzsanna Orthodoxou.
I learned, and inherited, the love of hand-knitting from my mother. She was a deeply creative woman, and back then creativity was a necessity if you wanted clothes: she sewed, crocheted, knitted, embroidered. She taught me to knit when I was about six or seven. At first, I hated it, I just couldn’t get the tension right. But with practice, I eventually found my rhythm. I mention this because so many people give up at exactly that point.
My mother and I never followed patterns; we designed and made everything ourselves. After a few longer breaks, I started knitting and designing seriously again in 2015. These days I design, knit, and write my own patterns. For a long time, socks were my favorite thing to make, but lately I’ve been more drawn to sweaters, though in truth, I’m a bit of a "knitting omnivore".
My new passion is machine knitting, which I also really enjoy, though for now I pursue it only as a hobby.
I write my patterns in English so that anyone, anywhere in the world can knit them, without limits.
I love the sense of community that comes with shared making, which is why I’m so happy to lead the Fonó at Molyoló, a place that is both dear and inspiring to me. It’s not only a space for knitting, but for all kinds of handmade crafts: crocheting, sewing, macramé, embroidery, and for simply creating together.
XOXO,
Zsuzsa
